“This piece was the first one I created after a seven year break from painting. It shows the final frame of a four-panel sketch I drew to tell the story of these two beings, who made a promise to each other to meet again in the rose garden after death. Face to face once more after too long separated by the veil, they can barely contain their joy. Red roses for eternal love, yellow for friendship. We are all missing someone. With this piece, I begin to tell stories.”

“A self-portrait of sorts, portrayed against the lush darkness of a nighttime scene in a garden. The Victorian language of flowers begins to be utilized as a tool for creating a story; every flower has a different meaning. Moths flit about, feeding off the poisonous night-blooming datura and carrying secrets. My favorite part of this painting is the nest, cradled tenderly by the delicate bones of the hands. There can be no love without vulnerability, and hearts can be broken as easily as an eggshell.”

“A lone figure luxuriates among sun-warmed poppies, with only a single Mourning Cloak butterfly lighting delicately upon her breast as company. The sun glints off her golden hair as it warms the bones of her skull. A scene of solitary peacefulness, with a whiff of death. For the first time in my work, the theme of the skull and the theme of female nudity are joined together.”
