“A piece inspired by shoujo manga. Here, our young deadly heroine, startled awake by the footsteps of an intruder upon the stairs, quickly grabs her pistol and hastily wraps her robe around herself to get ready for the fight. A frenetic but fun piece, with a powerful red background.”

“A weird little mash-up of gun violence, nauseating pinkness, trashy sex, and performative hyper-femininity. ‘Amurrica, fuck yeah!’ Bouncing hair, star-spangled bouncing breasts, and the imagined metallic ‘clink’ as the lipstick-like shell casings hit the ground. The hot princess-pink background ties it all together into one bright and vulgar package.”

“Religion and violence just seem to go together like peas and carrots, don’t they? Mary holds one hand out in gentle supplication, while the other brandishes a pistol. Is she offering us succour, or admonishing us? Is she threatening us? I redid this piece several times, each time making the colors a bit brighter until I finally succumbed to the siren song of chartreuse. All of my paintings demand to be colorful.”

“A piece meant to evoke the violent glamour of a classic Bond girl. She waits in her lair, setting her trap, ready to fuck or fight.”

“Remember when sugar skull art was everywhere? Such a culturally appropriative time! This painting was my very first time painting a skull. In this piece, I also experimented with a paint splatter background. The paint splatter upon the turquoise created a very ‘retro’ effect, and the end result evoked an image of a paint splattered wall of a 1950’s paint and auto body shop. All that’s missing is the girly calendar and hoodlums in black leather jackets.”

“The heartbreak of losing a loved one from this impermanent world of fragile flesh, and of being left behind to mourn and carry on. Love does not dissolve merely because the flesh does. More juicy orange, just because I love it so.”

“The common theme of heartbreak at love’s withered promise. These simple roses are the first humble introduction of botanical elements into my work. It would be years before I ventured further into this realm; the idea of painting flowers intimidated me for some reason. Eventually I had to overcome this self-limiting fear, so I could tell the stories I wanted to tell, in the way I wanted to tell them.”

“I love that strange little movie about the cosmic adventures of space age sexpot Barbarella, played by the young Jane Fonda. So very campy! Here, I used a slightly drab color palette to convey the dinginess of the film stock, which evokes a feeling of viewing bright colors through the murkiness of dirty water. The phallic nature of her ray gun is impossible to ignore, but so much silly fun.”

“Man, I loved watching the ‘Wonder Woman’ TV show as a kid. Lynda Carter was just so damned gorgeous. I never missed an episode, and loved to play ‘Wonder Woman’ with my little chums, where a skipping rope made a handy substitute for the golden lasso of truth. I chose a vivid yellow background here to mimic the bright yellow one might see on the cover of a Marvel Comic book in the 70`s.”

“I loved the original Catfight! painting so much I made a nearly identical one. This piece is slightly longer, and includes a deadly pointed stiletto boot to match her pointy claws.”
